Event Schedule

The event will start at 10AM at 175 Almond St, Auburn, California, with the following panel schedule:

10:00-10:10 - Welcome to the Smith Circle

10:10-10:50 - Smith as an Auburn and California Author
Smith lived most of his life in Auburn, and it had an noticable effect on his work. From setting a number of stories in and around the town, to working in his Californian experience, many of Smith's stories were infused with Genius Loci. This panel will discuss his life in Auburn and the variety of local influences on his work.
Panelists: Ron Hilger, Darin Coelho Spring

11:00-11:50 - Smith's Poetry
Today, Smith is most know for his fiction, but poetry was his first and enduring love. His first four publications were poetry collections and he was touted as the "Keats of the Sierras". And even his fiction is well know for its poetic lyracism. This panel will cover his poetry works, influences and intepretations.
Panelists: S. T. Joshi, John R. Fultz

12:00-1:30 - Lunch Break (vendor time)

1:30-2:20 - Smith's Fantasy
Averoigne, Hyperborea, Poseidonis, ?Zothique? (you decide), we love Smith's fantastical and phantasmagoric fantasies. Even his contemporary and science fiction stories have strong fantasy elements. This panel will discuss all that is good about Smith's fantasy stories.
Panelists: Cody Goodfellow, John R. Fultz, Darin Coelho Spring

2:30-3:20 - Smith's Art
As if being a poet and author wasn't enough, Smith was also a self-taught artist and sculptor. His art is some of the wildest and weirdest you will ever see, just like his written works. This panel will discuss how Smith's art has influenced current artists, and how his stories have been adapted into artistic media.
Panelists: Skinner, Charles Schneider, Jason Bradley Thompson

3:30-4:20 - Smith's Science Fiction
Mars, Xiccarph, Captain Volmar and the Alcyone, ?Zothique? (you decide), were all stories set in far off worlds that could be said to be more fiction than science. But they also certainly were memoriable and unique, even the ones he stretched to get a few more cents out of. This panel will discuss Smith's science fiction stories, the great and the good.
Panelists: S. T. Joshi, Cody Goodfellow, Ron Hilger

4:30-4:50 - Special Presentation by Charles Schneider
4:50-5:00 - Closing Comments

5:00-6:00 - Possibly more vendor time
